PIONEER partners TH Köln (DE), LAUREA University of Applied Sciences (FI) and ISCTE University Institute of Lisbon (PT) are collaborating on an exciting international education program.

The Blended Intensive Program (BIP) “Service Design & Marketing in Social Innovation” provides the unique opportunity to learn about Service Design and Marketing in the context of Social Innovation in an interdisciplinary and international team.

The project will be hosted and organized by the Service Design Department of KISD (Köln International School of Design) in Cologne, Germany. Apart from students from Cologne, 10-15 students from ISCTE University Institute of Lisbon as well as from LAUREA University of Applied Sciences in Helsinki can participate.

In this BIP, together with our partners, we want to develop ideas and concepts that promote social innovation.

During the project students will work on a real context brief with a partner. To do this, we will follow the Service Design process and methodologies from the discovery phase to prototyping.

Course details:

The aim of the project is to develop concepts and solutions with a tangible social benefit and to realise these in prototypes.

  1. April – 10. May: Hybrid project phase

In the first phase of the project, we want to familiarise ourselves with the special features of social innovation. With the help of service design, we will identify challenges in this area. To do this, we want to immerse ourselves in the real-life case studies of our partners.

  • Thematic introduction
  • Presentation of the project framework by partners
  • Preparation for Cologne

  1. – 17. May: Project week in Cologne

In the second project phase, an intensive project week in Cologne, we will uncover the potential of our partners through in-depth research. This will pave the way for the research and development of possible innovations.

  • Interviews and field research in Cologne
  • Development, conceptualization and prototypical
  • implementation of solutions

  • Prerequisite: basic knowledge of service design
  • Evaluation: pass/fail (can be individualized per institution)
  • Study points: 3 ETCSMore details on the BIP and enrollment procedures will follow through the PIONEER partner institutions’ communication channels.

We look forward to this exciting PIONEER educational experience!
