EUROPEAN HACKATHON 2nd edition from Saturday 25 March to Monday 27 March 2023

Context

Université Gustave Eiffel and AFIT France (the French transport infrastructure financing agency) are working together on a study of changes in mobility (goods and passengers) and their impact on transport infrastructure needs.

This reflection has been initiated in 2021, around 3 sequences: a round table co-organised during the Future Days (Université Gustave Eiffel event on the cities of tomorrow), a European hackathon, and a European symposium of transport infrastructure financing agencies in 2022.
The ambition is to continue the dynamic initiated with AFIT France and its European counterparts, and to once again fuel the reflection on infrastructure investment needs by working beforehand on mobility practices, their determinants, their possible shift towards greater sustainability and the implications in terms of renewed infrastructure needs. This work will be carried out on a European scale, by mobilising students at Master 1 and Master 2 level via a new edition of the European hackathon.

Dates, location and theme of the event

The European Hackathon will be held at Université Gustave Eiffel on Marne-la-Vallée Campus (77) from Saturday 25 March to Monday 27 March 2023. For this second edition, the theme of the event is “How to support behavioural changes for more sustainable mobility?”

The participation will allow the students to get 3 ECTS.

Audience

This event is aimed at students at Master 1 and/or Master 2 level at Université Gustave Eiffel but also at foreign students at the same level in our partner universities.

Students from Université Gustave Eiffel will work with students from the following partner universities:
– TH Köln, Germany;
– LAUREA Helsinki, Finland;
– UNIZA University, Slovakia;
– ISCTE-IUL, Lisbon, Portugal;
– University of Bologna, Unibo, Italy;
– Politecnico di Milano, PoliMi, Italy;
– University of Cantemir, Bucharest, Romania.

Students must have an interest in mobility issues but also, more broadly, in all the elements that can influence the mobility practices of goods and travellers and that are related to the supply of services, urban planning or residential, commercial or employment geography, as well as the psychological and cognitive characteristics of individuals. The hackathon is therefore not only aimed at mobility specialists, but also at students capable of shedding light on the environments (economic, geographical, sociological, psychological, technical, etc.) of mobility.

The students are recruited through a call for participation launched on 07 November 2022 until 13 January 2023.

Post Hackathon

Following the hackathon, the 3 winning teams may be invited to present their projects to a panel of specialists in the field and representatives of European infrastructure funding agencies.
Transport, accommodation and catering for foreign students from the partner universities will be provided by Université Gustave Eiffel (3 days / 2 nights: from 25 to 26 March and from 26 March to 27 March).
